Histopathological Heterogeneity in Hybrid Ameloblastoma: A Case Report
Abstract: Ameloblastoma is one of the most common odontogenic tumors of epithelial origin, exhibiting several histological subtypes. Among these, hybrid ameloblastoma is a rare entity characterized by the coexistence of multiple histopathological patterns within the same lesion. Here we report a case of hybrid ameloblastoma in a 51-year-old female patient involving the right side of the mandible. Radiographic evaluation revealed a mixed radiolucent-radiopaque multilocular lesion. The incisional biopsy suggested desmoplastic ameloblastoma, whereas the excisional biopsy revealed a broader histopathological spectrum, comprising desmoplastic, follicular, plexiform, and acanthomatous patterns. The treatment of choice was segmental resection of the tumor. This case highlights the diagnostic challenge and biological heterogeneity associated with hybrid ameloblastoma. Recognition of its diverse histopathological features is crucial for accurate diagnosis and appropriate surgical management.
