Mapping Research on Anorexia Nervosa: A 25-Year Bibliometric Analysis (2000-2025)
Abstract: Anorexia nervosa is a serious psychiatric disorder with considerable physical and psychological consequences. This study offers a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of the top 100 most cited articles on anorexia nervosa published between 2000 and 2025. Drawing data from the Scopus database, the analysis explores publication trends, citation metrics, thematic distributions, and institutional productivity. The United States and the United Kingdom emerged as the leading contributors, with most research published in high-impact psychiatric and medical journals. Themes such as mortality, treatment efficacy, comorbidity, and genetic factors dominated the scholarly landscape. The study reveals a notable geographic and thematic imbalance, emphasizing the need for broader inclusion, particularly regarding underrepresented populations and emerging influences such as social media. These findings underscore the evolving nature of research in this domain and point to areas warranting greater scholarly attention.
