Lewis Pumulo Sooli

Abstract: This article discusses a variety of responsibilities assigned to companies by the investors, community, law enforcements and the stakeholders. It analyses views from other scholars who argue that there is a mutual relationship between companies and society in general. The article also elaborates on why companies engage in social investments. It concludes the ‘business case’ scenario for investors, and that companies, especially Multinational Corporations, are in business for profit. It is not their responsibility to tackle poverty issues.

Keywords: Corporate Social responsibility, poverty, mining companies
