Location of Steel Plate Shear Wall for Rectangular Building

Anitta P. Jose [2] | Asha Alice K

Abstract: Steel plate shear walls are an innovative lateral load-resisting system capable of resisting damages due to wind and earthquake forces. The system consists of vertical steel plates connected to the surrounding beams and columns. Steel plate shear walls are well-suited for new constructions and they also offer a relatively simple means for the seismic upgrading of existing steel or concrete structures. There are three types of steel plate shear walls stiffened, unstiffened and composite. Composite Plate Shear Walls (C-PSWs) incorporate components of a steel plate shear wall as well as a reinforced concrete wall. Here a 25 storey, building is considered with stiffened, unstiffened, composite panels to determine its behavior under seismic effect. Also the effects of thickness of plate under seismic effect.
