Leadership, Strategic Foresight, and the Global Consequences of Armed Conflict: A Framework for Assessing Humanitarian, Economic, and Environmental Impacts
Abstract: Contemporary geopolitical conflicts have increasingly generated far-reaching humanitarian, economic, and environmental consequences that extend beyond traditional military and political boundaries. Despite extensive research on international relations and conflict management, existing studies have given limited attention to the role of leadership deficiencies in shaping these multidimensional crises. This study aims to develop an integrated conceptual framework explaining how inadequate strategic foresight, ethical shortcomings, and weak systems thinking among political leaders contribute to adverse global outcomes during armed conflicts. The framework draws upon Strategic Leadership Theory, Ethical Leadership Theory, and Systems Theory to provide a comprehensive understanding of leadership effectiveness in complex geopolitical environments. Empirical illustrations from the Russia?Ukraine conflict and recent Middle East crises demonstrate the interconnected impacts of conflict on humanitarian welfare, economic stability, and environmental sustainability. The study contributes theoretically by extending leadership scholarship into global crisis contexts and practically by informing policy development and leadership training initiatives. Future research should empirically validate the proposed framework through comparative and cross-national investigations using advanced analytical approaches.
