A Study to Assess the Effectiveness of Planned Teaching Programme on Knowledge regarding Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome among Adolescent Girls in a Selected Junior College at Dhule District Maharashtra

Nivedita Wahengbam, Dr. Venice Mairya David

Abstract: The study on the effectiveness of a planned teaching program to enhance knowledge about Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) among adolescent girls offers a compelling glimpse into addressing a critical gap in health education. Conducted at MG College in Dhule with 100 participants, this research employed a pre-experimental design to assess baseline knowledge, deliver a 40-minute educational intervention, and measure subsequent improvements through pre- and post-test scores. It is evident that the intervention yielded meaningful results, with 81.4% of participants achieving adequate knowledge post-intervention, a stark contrast to the initial baseline. This suggests that structured, concise educational efforts can significantly elevate awareness of a condition affecting up to 22% of women aged 18?44 globally. However, the reliance on non-probability sampling raises questions about generalizability, particularly in diverse socioeconomic contexts. Taking this further, the study?s focus on adolescent girls is noteworthy, as early awareness could foster proactive health management, yet I wonder if cultural or regional factors, unaddressed here, might influence knowledge retention. The statistically significant improvement (p<0.01) underscores the intervention?s efficacy, but its long-term impact remains an open question, inviting further exploration into sustained educational strategies for endocrine health.
