From Deficiency to Mastery: A Strategic Program for Vocabulary and Reading Comprehension Enhancement

Abstract: This research focused on building a learner - centered program aimed at improving vocabulary and reading comprehension among college students experiencing challenges in these areas. By integrating quantitative assessments and qualitative insights through a convergent parallel mixed - methods design, the study gathered a rich understanding of the program?s effectiveness. Students underwent structured interventions involving explicit vocabulary instruction and guided reading practices. By integrating explicit vocabulary instruction with systematic reading strategies, the program seeks to transform students? abilities from mere deficiency to mastery. The data revealed measurable improvements in test performance and a rise in learner engagement and self - confidence. What stood out most was how peer collaboration and reflective exercises fostered deeper understanding. These results highlight that thoughtfully designed strategies can help shift learners from a place of struggle to one of mastery, paving the way for long - term academic growth.
