Trauma and Dispossession in Postcolonial African Narratives: Migrant Identity in Isidore Okpewho's "Call Me By My Rightful Name" and Buchi Emecheta's "Kehinde"
Abstract: This article examines how trauma, dispossession, identity, cultural hybridity, and cultural displacement affect migrant characters in postcolonial literature, focusing on Isidore Okpewho's Call Me By My Rightful Name and Buchi Emecheta's Kehinde. It examines the authors' use of narrative strategies to highlight identity crises, cultural hybridity, and the psychological consequences of displacement. Employing postcolonial theory, the article argues that transcontinental migration creates news burdens for postcolonial subjects rather than alleviating their struggles.
Keywords: Trauma, dispossession, postcolonial migration, identity, cultural hybridity and African diaspora
