Synthesis, Characterization and Antimicrobial Activity of Some Organotin (IV) Complexes with a Potassium Hydrogen Ethanedioate Ligand
Abstract: Four series of organotin (IV) derivatives of potassium hydrogen ethanedioate Bu2SnL2, Bu3SnL, Ph2SnL2 and Ph3SnL have been synthesized characterized by tin content analysis, FTIR, 1H NMR and 13C NMR and tested for antimicrobial activity against four Gram-positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes, Bacillus cereus, Corynebacterium ulcerans, four Gram-negative Bacteria Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis and Pseudomonas aeruginosa and four fungi strains of Microsporum sppMicrosporum audounii, Microsporum distortum, Microsporum gallinae and Microsporum gypseum. Result showed that the compounds synthesized in general exhibited greater antimicrobial activity than potassium hydrogen ethanedioate. Organotin moieties play a vital role in deciding the antimicrobial activity of an organotin compound, this is true in this work. The order for the antifungal activity in this study was Bu3SnL > Ph3SnL >Ph2SnL2> Bu2SnL2. The order of activity against gram-positive bacteria was Ph3SnL > Bu2SnL2> Ph2SnL2> Bu3SnL. The order of activity against gram-negative bacteria was Bu3SnL > Bu2SnL2> Ph2SnL2> Ph3SnL.
