Dowry: The Dark Side of Weddings in Our Society

Abstract: The present study unveils the nature of dowry and explore the dowry problem all over the world. In India marriage is an auspicious ceremony which unites two bodies’ two souls. It’s a lifetime bonding of both man and woman, but to the huge extent of the major problem is dowry practice” in our society, dowry is a deep-rooted social practice but now this social practice converted into a social problem. The demand for dowry is a major problem in Indian marriages; marriage is the name of settlement or we can say women’s settlement. Dowry became the worst part of it. As we are living in the 21st century but still women in our society has been ill-treated for dowry, so researcher proposed to study “dowry became the dark side of weddings in our society”. This paper analyses the origin and problem of dowry, present situation of dowry and also the presence of dowry in Indian society.
