Industrial Competitiveness and Complementarity between China and Kazakhstan

Abstract: This paper studies industrial competitiveness and complementarity between China and Kazakhstan under the context of Silk Road Economic Belt. Competitiveness are studied by the export similarity and the RCA index, and complementarity uses the trade complementary index. It is found that they are not competitive but have their own advantages, Kazakhstan has advantages in resource-intensive industries, while China has advantages in labor-intensive and capital-technology-intensive industries, Complementarity between them is strong, mainly concentrated on the resource-intensive and labor-intensive industries. This paper puts forward some reasons to explain, such as the difference on natural resources, labor and technology.
