Human Body as Stardust: A Review of Cosmic Origin, Elemental Continuity, and Panchabhuta Integration

Sobharani G.

Abstract: The concept that the human body is composed of "stardust" is supported by modern astrophysics, biochemistry, and Earth sciences. Elements essential for life originate from stellar nucleosynthesis and supernova processes, later becoming part of planetary systems and living organisms. In parallel, the traditional Panchabhuta doctrine describes the body as composed of five fundamental elements- earth, water, fire, air, and space. This review integrates these perspectives to present the human body as a dynamic system of continuous exchange of matter and energy with the universe. It examines elemental composition, cosmic origin, biological functionality, and environmental interaction. Scientific principles such as conservation of energy, biogeochemical cycles, and the human microbiome are used to support the idea of continuous transformation. The study establishes that the human body is not an isolated entity but part of an ongoing cosmic process. This integrative understanding provides a conceptual bridge between modern science and yogic philosophy, offering potential applications in yoga therapy, particularly in practices involving internal awareness and energy regulation.
