Role of Visual Communication in Promoting Girls? Education in Uttar Pradesh: An Analytical Study Based on Secondary Data

Abstract: This research paper critically examines the strategic role of visual communication in promoting girls' education in Uttar Pradesh through comprehensive analysis of secondary data. Using content analysis methodology, the study evaluates government reports including UDISE+ 2021-22, NFHS-5, and policy documents related to Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan. The findings demonstrate that visual communication tools function as semiotic systems that negotiate cultural barriers to female education in rural Uttar Pradesh. The study argues that design interventions through posters, environmental graphics under BaLA initiative, and digital media on DIKSHA platform create visual rhetoric that challenges patriarchal narratives. This research is based exclusively on secondary sources including published literature, government publications, and visual campaign archives. No primary ethnographic fieldwork was undertaken due to academic constraints of the MFA program. The paper concludes that Applied Art as a discipline possesses methodological frameworks for development communication and recommends curricular reforms to integrate social design praxis in MFA programs at institutions like Shri Ram College, Muzaffarnagar. The study contributes to the emerging discourse on design for social impact within Indian art education.
