Optimization of Fiber Reinforced High Strength Concrete

Valluri Lakshmi Narendra | K. S. Praveen

Abstract: The study on the optimaization of fiber reinforced high strength concrete (FRHSC) gives us the result of optimaized strength by adding different percentage ( %) of fibers in M70 grade concrete mix. The reason for less use of FRHSC is its high cost of fibers and it also employs higher cement content which results in increasing water absorption capasityof the concrete mix. In this study, material properties of an FRHSC containing sisal, nylon, polypropylene fibers are determined which include compressive strength, split tensile strength and flexural strength. this fibers are relatively cheaper and mostly used fibers in concrete which are recently investigated by a few researchers. In this experimental work, there is no replacement of any material. In this study, influence of addition of 0.5 %, 1 %, 1.5 %, 2 %, 2.5 %, 3 %, 3.5 % and 4 % fibers in different volume fraction in M70 grade HSC is investigated. Experimental results showed that the optimaization of high strength concrete by addition of fibers up to 2.5 % (polypropylene), 3 % (sisal), and 4 % (nylon) of fibers together with mineral admixtures is optimaized and improved the compressive strength, split tensile strength and flexural strength below the optimaized percentage. The improvement in the strain corresponding to maximum compressive strength, split tensile strength and flexural strength results was observed at all fibers upto optimaized percentage ( %) level
