Effectiveness of Ultrasound Therapy versus Kinesio Taping on Pain, Range of Motion, and Shoulder Functional Activities in Acute Supraspinatus Tendinitis Individuals
Abstract: Background: Acute supraspinatus tendinitis is one of the most common causes of shoulder pain and functional disability, particularly among individuals performing repetitive overhead activities. The condition is characterized by pain, reduced shoulder range of motion, impaired muscle performance, and limitations in activities of daily living. Therapeutic ultrasound and Kinesio taping are commonly used physiotherapy interventions; however, evidence comparing their effectiveness remains limited. Aim: To compare the effectiveness of ultrasound therapy and Kinesio taping on pain, shoulder range of motion, and shoulder functional activities among individuals with acute supraspinatus tendinitis. Methodology: A randomized comparative interventional study was conducted among 30 participants diagnosed with acute supraspinatus tendinitis. Participants were randomly allocated into two groups of 15 each. Group A received therapeutic ultrasound along with a conventional exercise programme, while Group B received Kinesio taping along with the same conventional exercise programme. Treatment was administered three sessions per week for four weeks. Outcome measures included the Numerical Pain Rating Scale (NPRS), Universal Goniometer, and the Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI). Assessments were performed before and after the intervention. Results: Both Group A and Group B demonstrated statistically significant improvements in pain, shoulder range of motion, and shoulder functional activities after four weeks of treatment (p
