Comparative Effect of High-Intensity Interval Training and Continuous Aerobic Training on Cardiovascular Fitness and Fatigue Resistance in Competitive Football Players
Abstract: Background: Structured cardiovascular endurance training has been shown to significantly improve aerobic capacity and recovery parameters in competitive football players. However, limited evidence exists comparing the relative effectiveness of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and continuous aerobic training (CAT) on cardiovascular fitness and fatigue resistance in football-specific contexts. Objective: To compare the effects of HIIT and CAT on VO2max, heart rate recovery, and fatigue resistance in competitive football players. Methods: Thirty competitive male football players (18-25 years) were randomly allocated into two groups: HIIT group (n = 15) and CAT group (n = 15). Both groups trained for 6 weeks, 4 sessions per week. VO2max, heart rate recovery, and repeated sprint ability were assessed pre- and post-intervention. Results: Both groups demonstrated significant improvements in VO2max and heart rate recovery (p 2max and fatigue resistance compared to the CAT group (p
