The Impact of Employee Motivation on Organizational Productivity: A Study of Financial and Non-Financial Motivational Strategies, Employee Productivity and Job Satisfaction

Gagandeep Singh Goraya, Raghu Raja Mehra

Abstract: Every organisation buys the same inputs at broadly the same prices: machinery, raw material, electricity and floor space. What differs from one firm to another is the willingness of its people to work well. This paper examines how financial and non-financial motivational strategies influence employee productivity and job satisfaction. Primary data were collected from 120 employees working in five departments of small and medium-sized organisations, using a structured questionnaire, and were supported by an eight-month productivity record made available by two participating firms. The findings show that financial rewards such as salary and bonus are strong short-term drivers of output but weak predictors of satisfaction and retention, while non-financial strategies such as recognition, career growth and supportive supervision are more strongly associated with sustained productivity, cooperation and lower turnover. A moderate to strong positive relationship was observed between composite motivation scores and the productivity index. The study concludes that the two categories of strategy are complementary rather than competing: fair pay removes dissatisfaction, but recognition and growth create the discretionary effort on which productivity gains depend.
