Fuzzy Logic-Driven Variable LSB Image Steganography Using Gaussian Membership Functions
Abstract: With the growing transmission of multimedia data across open networks, there is a need for a method of communication in a secure and covert manner. Image steganography provides an effective approach to conceal secret information within digital images. This paper presents a LSB based image steganography scheme using fuzzy logic with Gaussian membership functions. Extraction of local image features, such as edge strength and texture is done using Sobel edge detection and local standard deviation filtering. A Sugeno-style fuzzy inference engine is employed to process the above-mentioned data so as to dynamically determine the bit rate (1-3) for each pixel. The proposed technique retains perceptual transparency for smooth areas and enhances the payload for the areas containing edges. Experimental results obtained for typical grayscale images demonstrate superior PSNR performance.
