Mine Safety Management System (MSMS): Risk Assessment and Accident Prevention in Modern Open-Cast and Underground Mines: A Comprehensive Research Study on Occupational Safety, Risk Matrix Assessment, and AI-IoT Integrated Hazard Prevention in Mining Operations

Dr. Rupesh Kumar Dubey

Abstract: The mining industry represents one of the most hazardous and challenging industrial sectors worldwide. Complex geological conditions, operation of heavy machinery, and dynamic atmospheric variations in both open-cast and underground mines present continuous operational hazards. This research paper presents a structured strategy to minimize industrial accidents through the strengthening of the Mine Safety Management System (MSMS), deployment of systematic Risk Matrix Analysis frameworks, and the integration of modern technology- including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and sensor-based tracking systems. Utilizing quantitative hazard identification methodology alongside comparative case studies from Indian and global mining sectors, this study demonstrates that the implementation of an integrated digital MSMS architecture can reduce operational risks by up to 42% and significantly lower incident frequency rates.
