Spatio-Temporal Assessment of Physico-Chemical Water Parameters of Govind Sagar Dam, Lalitpur, Uttar Pradesh
Abstract: Water quality fluctuations significantly dictate fish behavior, serving as a critical biomarker for physiological health, growth, and ecosystem productivity. This study evaluates key physical, chemical, and anthropogenic parameters across multiple sampling sites at the Govind Sagar Dam in Lalitpur. Parameters analyzed include physical metrics (water temperature and turbidity), chemical variables (dissolved oxygen, salinity, pH, and inorganic nitrogen), and emerging pollutants (microplastics and Agricultural waste). Environmental shifts in these parameters alter fish physiology, metabolic rates, tissue structure, and sensory perception. Consequently, these physiological disturbances impair vital behavioral responses, including swimming performance, schooling dynamics, foraging efficiency, predator avoidance, territorial aggression, mating success, and anxiety-driven threat perceptions.
Keywords: Dissolved oxygen, pH, Water temperature, Turbidity, Salinity, Inorganic nitrogen
