Ground Water Pollution: A Comparative Study of Pre and Post Monsoon Season of Aligarh City, U.P. India

Dr. Mohammad Anwar Khwaja

Abstract: Groundwater is known as an important source of water supply due to its relatively low susceptibility to pollution in comparison to surface water. Unethical human intervention in natural system and over exploitation of groundwater resources induces degradation of its quality. In many instances groundwater is used directly for drinking as well as for other household, agricultural and industrial purposes, hence the study of groundwater pollution is extremely important. Twenty groundwater samples were collected during pre and post-monsoon period of the year 2024 and analyzed for twenty physico-chemical parameters. The results were compared with the specifications prescribed by the Bureau of Indian standards. It revealed that concentration of some parameters were higher than the permissible limit prescribed by the Bureau of Indian standards. It indicates signs of water quality deterioration.

Keywords: water quality, physico-chemical parameters, ground water, rain water harvesting
