Non-Compliance with Safety Controls at Work in the Indian Companies
Abstract: The objective of this research is to know the reasons for non-compliance with safety controls at work in the India companies. The method used is the cross-sectional study with a sample of 675 occupational health and safety managers from 120 companies in the country. The same number of surveys, three focus groups and nine interviews were carried out as revealed from the case study. Descriptive statistical calculations were performed for quantitative data; for qualitative discourse analysis, identification and structural classification of strategic dimensions and search for a common behavior pattern. The results of this study revealed that around 23.11% of the professionals consulted, during the last year, were almost always frustrated by not being able to implement the workplace safety controls that they knew required by the company where they work. Among others, the main reasons were: 31% lack of support from management and 27.1% lack of support from the rest of the coordinators. It was concluded in the study that the occupational health and safety management system requires a more strategic vision on the part of the companies and a more convincing action on the part of the professionals in the area (ARM, 2016).
