Open Access Journals: A Key Component of Scholarly Communication
Abstract: Open Access (OA) journals have transformed scholarly communication by providing unrestricted access to research outputs. Traditional subscription-based publishing models often limit access to knowledge due to high costs. Open Access journals remove these barriers, enabling researchers, students, policymakers, and the general public to access scholarly literature freely. This paper discusses scholarly communication, accumulation, creation, evaluation, publication, open access, dissemination, preservation, and open access publishing. It highlights the significance, benefits, challenges, and future prospects of Open Access journals in advancing global knowledge sharing.
