Usage of Library Resources and Services of Central Library, Maharana Pratap Horticultural University, Karnal: A User Centric Assessment
Abstract: The present study intended to know the usage of library resources and services by the users of Central Library, MHU, Karnal. the survey method was adopted to collect the data from the users. A total of 83 users were taken from the university including undergraduate, postgraduate, research scholars and faculty members. The study reveals that almost all users were aware of the Central Library and its services, reflecting the library strong visibility within the university. Most of the users were visited the library daily for preparing their assignments, exams, studying in a peaceful academic environment, issue and return of books, searching information for their academic and research purposes. Books were the most frequently used by the users and also access the e-resources was also very good rating. The behaviour of library staff and faculty was excellent and cooperative and helpful in nature and they were assisting all the users how to access the library resources and services. The overall positive insight of the library, the results reveals that some challenges like shortage of seating capacity, non availability of study materials,, syllabus books, competitive examination books, limited study area, information searching skills, lack of knowledge of library resources and services, the study concluded that there is an urgent need to organise information literacy programme, basically how to use OPAC, and information search strategy.
