Risky Behaviour among Adolescent Boys: A Sociological Study
Abstract: Adolescence often described as a phase of curiosity, self-exploration and adventure, is also a period when individuals experiment with behaviours that can place their as well as others safety, health and future at risk. Whether concerning to substance abuse, unsafe social media exposure, reckless sexual behaviour or driving, risky behaviour among adolescents has become a growing concern worldwide. As the adolescents negotiate with this transition from childhood to adulthood, they face immense pressure from family, peer-group and society. The enormity of the issue demands a closer understanding of the determinants and factors of risky behaviour among adolescents. The present study seeks to comprehend how adolescent boys perceive and engage in risk taking activities as well as how do they locate themselves within their family and school environment, peer-groups and media exposure.
