Bioinformatics in the Era of Personalized Medicine

Saanvi Bhambhani, Raghu Raja Mehra

Abstract: Personalized medicine promises to move healthcare away from a one-size-fits-all model toward therapies tailored to an individual's unique biological makeup. At the heart of this shift lies bioinformatics- the discipline that stores, cleans, analyses, and interprets the enormous volumes of data generated by modern biology. This paper surveys how bioinformatics enables personalized medicine: it introduces the core tools and multi-omics data landscape, traces the pipeline that converts a biological sample into a clinical decision, and examines the role of artificial intelligence and machine learning in extracting meaning from complex biological signals. It then reviews leading clinical applications through a precision-oncology case study, discusses the technical and ethical challenges that remain, and outlines future directions. We argue that the convergence of falling sequencing costs, scalable computing, and intelligent algorithms is making individualized, predictive, and preventive healthcare an achievable reality.
