Photocatalytic Breakdown of Biomaterial by TiO2 Mediated Photocatalysis: A Review
Abstract: Photocatalytic degradation of biomaterials with TiO2 a photocatalyst has attracted considerable interest owing to its potential in degrading a wide range of biomaterials. Homogeneous (undoped) and Heterogeneous (doped) TiO2 based Photocatalytic biodegradation have been achieved in the presence of ultraviolet (UVA and UVC) and VIS irradiation. The degradation process effect the structural and functional properties of biomaterials. The objective of this review is to explore the effect of photocatalysis on different cells and viral particles. In addition, the review conveys comprehensive and fundamental assessments of the photocatalytic activity for breakdown of the nucleic acids, lignocelluloses materials, proteins and lipids.
