Respectful Maternity Care and Patient Satisfaction

Y Nathalina Deepika

Abstract: Respectful Maternity Care (RMC) is a woman-centered approach that emphasizes dignity, privacy, informed consent, emotional support, and freedom from abuse during pregnancy, labour, and childbirth. Quality maternity care not only focuses on clinical outcomes but also on the emotional and psychological wellbeing of mothers. Patient satisfaction is an important indicator of healthcare quality and is greatly influenced by the level of respect and compassion shown by healthcare professionals. This article discusses the concept of respectful maternity care, its principles, importance, challenges, and the relationship between RMC and patient satisfaction. Promoting respectful maternity care improves maternal experience, increases trust in healthcare institutions, and contributes to better maternal and neonatal outcomes.
