Study of Various Physical Forces Acting on the Mega Structure-Gravity Dam

Tanuj Manesh Patel, Niel Jigneshkumar Patel

Abstract: This paper presents a detailed study of the physical forces acting on gravity dams. Various types of dams were studied to understand their structural behavior and force-resisting mechanisms. Their basic forces balancing technique, their usage and functionality was understood. Out of all the various types of dams, gravity dam was taken as core mega structure. The main purpose of this study is to understand various forces acting on the gravity dam. The physical forces were seen physically by visiting dam site i.e., Dharoi Dam which is gravity dam on the Sabarmati River near Dharoi, Satlasna taluka, Mehsana district, northern part of Gujarat, India.

Keywords: Gravity dam, forces acting on gravity dam, dharoi dam
