A Psychological and Behavioural Study of Bank Employees
Abstract: Background: The banking sector is characterized by increasing performance demands, technological changes, regulatory pressures, and customer service expectations, all of which may affect employee psychological well-being. Objective: This study examined occupational stress, emotional regulation, job satisfaction, work-life balance, and psychological well-being among bank employees. Method: A quantitative cross-sectional design was employed among bank employees from public and private sector banks in Kerala. Data were collected using structured psychological and behavioural assessment measures. Descriptive and inferential statistical techniques were used to analyze the data. The study design, sampling framework, and psychological assessment approach were derived from the dissertation methodology. Results: Findings indicated moderate-to-high occupational stress among employees. Target pressure, workload, emotional labor, and work-family conflict emerged as significant stressors. Private sector employees reported higher stress levels than public sector employees. Increased stress was associated with reduced emotional regulation, lower psychological well-being, and decreased job satisfaction. Work-family conflict and workload significantly predicted negative psychological outcomes. Conclusion: Banking employees experience substantial psychological demands that may adversely affect well-being and performance. Organizational interventions focusing on stress management, emotional intelligence development, and work-life balance are recommended.
