Work-Life Balance and Psychological Well-Being among Employees in Bangalore Urban: A Cross-Sectional Study

Naveen Kumar K.

Abstract: This study examined work-life balance and psychological well-being among employees in Bangalore Urban using a quantitative, descriptive, correlational and cross-sectional survey. Of 123 exported response records, 108 contained complete demographic and questionnaire data; 15 incompatible earlier records were excluded. The analysed sample comprised 62 males and 46 females. The survey included a 25-item study-specific work-life balance questionnaire and 18 psychological well-being items matching the Ryff short-form instrument. Negatively worded items were reverse-scored. Analyses included descriptive statistics, reliability estimates, Shapiro?Wilk tests, Welch independent-samples t-tests, Pearson and Spearman correlations, and demographic association tests with conditional Monte Carlo checks. No gender comparison of work-life balance or psychological well-being reached statistical significance. Total work-life balance was not significantly correlated with psychological well-being (r = .136, p = .159). The Personal Well-being domain showed a modest positive Pearson correlation (r = .253, p = .008), which narrowly remained significant after Holm adjustment across six correlations. Occupation and daily working hours were associated with gender; age, marital status and work mode were not. Several subscales showed poor or negative internal consistency, and normality diagnostics indicated distributional departures. These measurement limitations, mixed occupational coverage and cross-sectional self-report design restrict interpretation. The findings are exploratory and cannot establish causal effects or represent all corporate employees in Bangalore Urban.
