Proximate Analysis of Leaves of Different Mulberry Genotypes for its Feed Quality
Abstract: Mulberry plant is a source for many byproducts due to its high nutritive value. After feeding silkworms, the leftover mulberry leaves are used as a better feed for ruminants for its high digestibility and palatability. Many studies have been carried out to examine the feed quality of different mulberry varieties. In this regard, leaves of twenty-one superior mulberry genetic resources were taken from Central Sericultural Germplasm Resource Centre (CSGRC), Hosur to analyse its moisture content, ash content, crude fat, crude fibre, crude protein and carbohydrates. Among the genotypes taken, Morus cathayana, Thaibeelad, ACC.165, Large black, UP-8, Kalimpong, L-5, Anklow, ME-065 possess higher crude protein with crude fibre percentage. Hence these genotypes could be used as a potential feed for cattles.
