Integrating Cybersecurity in Smart Cities: A Comprehensive Review and Framework

Abstract: This article aims to provide answers to smart city concerns and prevent expensive outages. It provides a methodology for recognizing, handling, and communicating cybersecurity risk to stakeholders at all levels. It can assist in identifying and prioritizing cybersecurity risk-reduction initiatives, as well as in integrating policy, business and technology strategies to risk management. Issues include maintaining security using ample amounts of data, safeguarding a network with huge attack possibilities, developing reliable data exchange policies, effectively utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI) and reducing failures. The framework assists the smart city in articulating its cybersecurity risk management by structuring information, facilitating risk management decisions, resolving threats and upgrading through learning from prior efforts. A review of the risks involved in developing smart cities is undertaken. Further, ways to protect network and data are given considering confidentiality, integrity and availability. Risks mitigating techniques such as Machine Learning (ML), statistical methods and deep learning models are explored with applications. The ways to respond to the risks and to make smart cities cyber secure are also discussed.
