Maternal and Child Health Disparities: Lessons from MDGs and Future Strategies under SDGs
Abstract: Maternal and child health has been a global priority, with notable progress achieved during the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) era. However, disparities remain, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), where socio-economic and systemic barriers hinder equitable healthcare access. This study evaluates progress in maternal and child health during the MDG period, identifies ongoing challenges, and explores opportunities under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) framework. Using a mixed-methods approach, the research assesses interventions, policies, and their impact on reducing maternal and child mortality. Findings emphasize the importance of multi-sectoral collaboration, innovative health financing, and community-driven initiatives in achieving SDG 3 targets for maternal and child health equity.
