UV Light Assisted Green Cross-Aldol Condensation in Aqueous Medium
Abstract: An environment-friendly green procedure is developed for Ultra Violet Ray assisted cross aldol condensation between a cycloalkanone and aromatic aldehyde in the existence of a LBSC (Lewis Base Surfactant Combined Catalyst). Triethanolamine acts as the base for aldol condensation as well as catalyzing the reaction by phase transfer and the desired aqueous phase synthesis is achieved. UV Ray is used as the specific source of energy in contrast to the conservative heating which minimizes unwanted bi-product generation and improves yield.
