Smart Farming: Leveraging Computer Technologies for Sustainable Agriculture
Abstract: Agriculture is undergoing a transformative shift driven by the integration of computer technologies and digital innovations. Smart farming, also known as precision agriculture, employs tools such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, Internet of Things (IoT), geographic information systems (GIS), and big data analytics to optimize crop production, resource management, and sustainability. By enabling real-time monitoring of soil health, weather conditions, and crop growth, computer-based systems support data-driven decision-making that enhances productivity while reducing environmental impact. Automated machinery, drones, and computer vision further contribute to efficient planting, irrigation, and harvesting practices. Moreover, block chain and cloud computing provide transparency and security in agricultural supply chains. This paper explores how computer technologies are reshaping traditional farming practices, highlighting their potential to address global challenges such as food security, climate change, and resource scarcity. The findings underscore that leveraging computational tools in agriculture not only improves efficiency and profitability but also fosters sustainable development for future generations.
