War Crimes in Ukraine-Legal Accountability Under Geneva Convention

Dr. Neelam Sanjay Dighe

Abstract: The study will examine war crimes in Ukraine in light of the Geneva Conventions, emphasizing the legal accountability systems made possible by international humanitarian law. It will look at recorded abuses by Russian forces, such as the use of banned weapons, forced deportations, torture, sexual assault, indiscriminate attacks on civilians, and illegal detentions. The UN, the European Court of Human Rights, and other investigations have confirmed that these acts represent grave violations of the Fourth Geneva Convention and Additional Protocols, which will be discussed in this article. In the midst of continuous armed conflict, it will also examine the function of international legal institutions in providing justice for victims and holding offenders accountable. The paper has carefully addressed the legal accountability of war crimes provided under humanitarian Law.
