Epithelioid Trophoblastic Tumor in a Perimenopausal Woman: A Rare Case Report
Abstract: Background: Epithelioid trophoblastic tumor (ETT) is a rare variant of gestational trophoblastic neoplasia (GTN), derived from chorionic-type intermediate trophoblastic cells. It is often misdiagnosed as other uterine malignancies due to its nonspecific presentation and imaging features. Case: We report a case of a 47-year-old perimenopausal woman presenting with irregular uterine bleeding and abdominal pain. Imaging revealed a bulky uterus with an intramural mass. She underwent staging laparotomy and total abdominal hysterectomy. Histopathology confirmed epithelioid trophoblastic tumor. Postoperative evaluation showed no metastatic disease. Conclusion: ETT should be considered in perimenopausal women presenting with abnormal uterine bleeding and uterine mass. Accurate diagnosis requires histopathological and immunohistochemical confirmation. Surgical management remains the mainstay of treatment for localized disease.
