A Quasi Experimental Study to Assess the Effectiveness of Structured Teaching Program on Atal Bhujal Yojana among the School Children with the View of Plantation in a Selected Villages of Khordha District
Abstract: This study looks at how a structured teaching programme can shape school students? understanding of the Atal Bhujal Yojana and, through it, the wider concern of groundwater conservation at a time when depletion is no longer a distant worry but a daily reality. Conducted among 50 students of 9th and 10th standard in a government high school in Khordha district, Odisha, the study uses a one-group pre-test-post-test design to assess knowledge levels before and after a planned teaching session on key elements of Atal Bhujal Yojana, water conservation, and community responsibility. In my view, the most telling outcome is the clear movement from largely inadequate awareness in the pre-test to predominantly adequate knowledge after the intervention, with meaningful gains observed across all content areas and supported by statistical testing. It is evident that such focused, age-appropriate teaching, combined with simple tools like structured questionnaires and discussions, can influence how young learners perceive their role in conserving groundwater. This raises another point: while the absence of a control group and the single-school setting limit broader generalisation, the pattern observed here suggests that integrating similar educational modules, linked with practical activities such as plantation drives, can serve as a realistic and low-cost step towards strengthening water literacy and responsible behaviour among future citizens.
