Occupational Self-Efficacy: A Systematic Literature Review and Future Research Agenda

Abstract: The significance of occupational self-efficacy (OSE) has received growing attention from researchers. However, there is a lack of comprehensive literature reviews on this subject. This study aims to synthesize existing research, focusing on the determinants and consequences of OSE. We used the well-known scientific database Web of Science to study current publications. Following PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines, we used Biblioshiny and R Studiofor for bibliometric analysis. Through bibliometric analysis, the study integrates the most influential articles, journals, countries, authors, and themes in the field. Content analysis identifies the two most widely used theories (Conservation of Resources Theory and Social Cognitive Theory) and reveals the determinants and consequences of OSE. Future research directions are proposed from the perspective of themes. The findings provide valuable guidance for real-world applications for academics, industry practitioners, and policymakers.
