Architecture at Historic Centre of Zacatecas: Foreign Influences along the Porfiriato (1877-1911)

Ines del Rocio Gaytan Ortiz [3]

Abstract: As it is well known, due to the Spanish domination of great part of the American continent throughout the 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, the architecture of the city of Zacatecas, as it happened with many cities of M?xico, was undoubtedly influenced by the traditional construction of the conquerors. However, until now it hasn?t been really questioned what other foreign influences are in fact present in the Historic Centre of this mining city, a place that was included in 1993 on the UNESCO World Heritage List. For this reason, the main objective of this paper is to talk about other foreign influences that are present in the architecture that is located in the so-called Historic Centre of Zacatecas, which include public and private buildings that were built or extensively remodeled between the years of 1877 to 1911.
