Waste Management: Initiatives in India from Waste to Wealth

Abstract: Today the environmental problems posed by waste materials are well known to all of us .Waste management is the collection, transport, processing, recycling or disposal, and monitoring of waste materials. Waste management is also carried out to recover resources from it and can involve solid, liquid, gaseous or radioactive substances, with different methods and fields of expertise for each. This paper outlines various advances in the area of waste management. It focuses on current practices related to waste management initiatives taken by India and also attempts to explain the various options available to meet the twin goals of environmental conservation and sustainable development with respect to our country and brings to light the various ways of converting waste to wealth.
