Coumarins: Paving the Future Path Towards Antibacterial and Anti-inflammatory Therapies
Abstract: Coumarins are a versatile class of benzopyrones whose derivatives, both synthesized and natural have been explored for a wide range of activities like anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal, anti-cancer, anti-coagulant, antioxidant, neuroprotective, anti-diabetic and anti-inflammatory activities. Two top classes of therapeutics in growing demand are antibacterials and anti-inflammatory agents. This review focuses on the studies carried out to explore the antibacterial and anti-inflammatory potentials of coumarins, both synthetic and naturally occurring, from 2021 to 2024.
