Transport Infrastructure in Colonial Cachar; an Overview

Abstract: Cachar is situated on the southern part of Assam. In the first half the nineteenth century, Cachar became the center of political turmoil. The repeated Burmese attack, ongoing civil war along with the assassination of Govindachandra without any natural heir paved the way for the British to occupy Cachar. It came under British Indian Territory in 1832. Occupation of Cachar brought it to the limelight of the British for various reasons and resulted a new direction to the transportation development. The article analysed the motives behind the development of transport infrastructure by the Colonial authorities and also over viewed its impact on the scenario of Cachar.
