Effect of Pesticides on Yield Components of Rice (Oryza Sativa)

Dr. Md. Anzer Alam, Kumari Bindu

Abstract: Pesticides ar phytotoxic by design, and any selectivity achieved depends upon several factors (environment, doses, stage & timing and method of application of pesticides). Thus, phytoxicity of the herbicide to crop itself is not uncommon due to the selectivity achieved under field conditions under various climatic conditions. Nevertheless, even if a pesticide molecule is phytooxic on crop, its potential for weed management will still depend on relative benefits compared with other methods of weed control. Present study concludes that 2, 4-D, Metolachlor and Bromoxynil were relatively less harmful than Isoproturon to rice and were still effective against weeds and favours increased yield. Positive effect of weed control associated with these herbicides may be considerable.
