A Study on the Relationship Between Emotional Intelligence and Attachment Style Among Dating App Users and Dating App Non-Users
Abstract: The present study aimed to examine the relationship between emotional intelligence and attachment style among dating app users and non-users. It also sought to compare emotional intelligence and attachment styles between the two groups and investigate gender differences among dating app non-users. A correlational research design was adopted, and purposive sampling was used to collect data from 114 young adults aged 18-30 years, comprising 64 dating app users and 50 non-users. Data were collected using the Emotional Intelligence Scale developed by Singh and Narain (2014) and the Attachment Style Questionnaire developed by Becker et al. (1997). The findings reported an association between emotional intelligence and attachment style among both dating app users and non-users, with a positive relationship between emotional intelligence and anxious attachment reported among dating app users. No statistically significant difference was found in emotional intelligence between the two groups (t = -0.877, p = .382). The study also reported no significant differences in attachment styles between the groups or in emotional intelligence and attachment styles between male and female non-users. These findings provide insights into the relationship between emotional intelligence and attachment style in the context of dating app usage.
