Academic Stress and Coping Strategies
Abstract: Academic stress refers to the psychological and physiological strain experienced when students perceive that academic demands exceed their available resources. It may arise from examinations, heavy workloads, deadlines, competition, expectations of parents or teachers, and uncertainty about academic or career outcomes. Although a moderate level of stress can motivate performance, persistent or intense stress may impair concentration, sleep, emotional well-being and academic functioning. This journal reviews major sources and consequences of academic stress and discusses adaptive coping strategies that can help students manage demands effectively. Emphasis is placed on problem-focused coping, emotion regulation, healthy routines, social support, mindfulness and timely professional help.
