Association Between Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults and Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss: A Case Report
Abstract: This case report describes a 34 year old male presenting with sudden bilateral sensorineural hearing loss subsequently diagnosed with latent autoimmune diabetes in adults based on positive anti GAD antibodies and reduced C peptide levels. The patient received high dose corticosteroid therapy and insulin treatment with partial auditory recovery and stabilization of glycemic control. The case highlights a potential autoimmune link between LADA and cochlear dysfunction and underscores the importance of early immunomodulatory intervention in sudden hearing loss associated with autoimmune metabolic disorders.
Keywords: latent autoimmune diabetes in adults, sudden sensorineural hearing loss, autoimmune inner ear disease, corticosteroid therapy, anti GAD antibodies, bilateral hearing loss
