Knowledge and Attitude on Organ Donation among College Students of Sivasagar District, Assam with a View to Develop an Information Booklet

Abstract: A quantitative survey approach with descriptive correlational research design was adopted for the study. A multi stage stratified random sampling technique was used to draw 166 students from four selected colleges of Sivasagar District, Assam. Data collection was done by using Structured Self-Administered Questionnaire and Three-point Likert scale. The data collected was analyzed in terms of descriptive and inferential statistics. Result showed that majority of the subjects i.e., 131(79%) college students had Moderately adequate knowledge, 20(12%) students had Adequate knowledge and 15(9%) college students had Inadequate knowledge regarding organ donation. Majority i.e., 98(59%) college students had Moderately favourable attitude, 37(22.3%) students had favourable attitude and 31(18.7%) college students had Unfavourable attitude regarding organ donation. There was a significant moderately positive correlation (r=0.373) between knowledge and attitude on organ donation among college student at p<0.05 level of significance. A significant association was found between knowledge and selected demographic variables like age, education, stream of education, occupation of father and source of information of college students at p<0.05 level. A significant association was also found between attitude and selected demographic variables such as age, gender, religion, education, stream of education, and occupation of mother, and source of information of college students at p<0.05 level.
