Abstract: This research paper explores the significance of freedom of the freedom of the press as enshired under Article 19(1)(a) of the Indian Constitution. Through an examination of landmark legal cases, scholarly articles, the study highlights the crucial role played by a free press in safeguarding democracy. It examines how press acts as a watch dog, exposing corruption, promoting public debate, facilitating the exchange of diverse ideas and holding those in power accountable.
